Everyone wants the Holy Grail of Link Building: Page one ranking on Google, Bing, or Yahoooooo!\u00a0 The inevitable question is \u201cDo I need more links to and from my site, or better links?\u201d\u00a0 The answer is yes.\u00a0 Confused?\u00a0 You won\u2019t be after this episode.<\/p>\n<h1>More is Better<\/h1>\n<p><strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If you don\u2019t have any inbound or outbound links to your site, you don\u2019t exist.\u00a0 While this may seem harsh, as far as the major search engines go, that is reality.\u00a0 You must be linking to other sites from your own, and having your site linked to from other sites.\u00a0 That shows that you are a valuable website both in terms of your own popularity and your worth in leading seekers to other high quality content.\u00a0 So, you are like Lebron James.\u00a0 You can be relied on to score big for your team, and also counted on to dish it off to your fellows every now and then.\u00a0 The <a href=\"..\/..\/blog\/2010\/06\/05\/structuring-your-webpage-for-seo-volume-1\/\">BSEs<\/a> like that about you.\u00a0 So then, can you just link to any random site or be linked to by any random site?\u00a0 Not so fast my friends.<\/p>\n<h1>Better is More<\/h1>\n<p><strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Relevance is the word of the day here.\u00a0 You want your outbound links to go somewhere that is relevant to your site.\u00a0 It could be to a site that reviews your products, a similar site to your own, or one that sells the products you sell (at higher prices of course!).\u00a0 The search engines want to be able to go to your site and jump around to other pertinent sites in the same vein.\u00a0 Remember, it\u2019s all about being part of the BSE\u2019s \u201ccircle of trust\u201d.\u00a0\u00a0 Relevance is also the key when being linked to from other sites.\u00a0 If you sell sports equipment, will it be good for you to have a link from a site that sells pots and pans?\u00a0 Only if you have invented a new sport with them.\u00a0 How about MLB.com?\u00a0 Much better.
