content truly is king<\/a>.\u00a0 The best, most natural way to get external links is to write some killer content through articles, blogs, reviews, etc.\u00a0 This will make people want to link to your site because to them you are one of the best.\u00a0 You will suddenly find your site linked to from people’s blogs, Facebook pages, social bookmarking sites, and\u00a0 web pages.\u00a0 That is the ultimate goal.\u00a0 Of course, our king does have a lady friend.<\/p>\nRelevance is Queen<\/h2>\n
Also coming in strong is the need for relevance.\u00a0 If you are looking for sites to exchange links with, make sure they are sites relevant to your business.\u00a0 Another great idea is to make comments on blogs or in forums that offer similar products or services.\u00a0 You can strategically weave your website address into your posting.\u00a0 Make sure any directories you submit your website to are also relevant to your site.\u00a0 All of your anchor text, tags, etc. should all be….RELEVANT!\u00a0 See where I’m going with this?\u00a0 Relevancy is one of the many attributes that the big search engines indexes use to determine where to rank your site, so make sure to keep them happy in this regard.<\/p>\n
Don’t Get Rooked<\/h2>\n
Just as I spoke about in an earlier blog on link building<\/a>, there are a few supposed short cuts out there that you should avoid.\u00a0 The first are the tons of general directories that pop up every other day.\u00a0 If the directory is not relevant to your site, it will not help you.\u00a0 If Google or one of the other BSE’s decides to penalize you, you will be worse off than you were when you started. Link farms are another ploy that should be avoided.\u00a0 Like the directories mentioned above, using them can lead to penalties and having your site removed from the indexes.\u00a0 Avoid them like the plague.\u00a0 One further hint.\u00a0 Don’t go out and create a bunch of dummy websites to link your site to for the sake of getting external links.\u00a0 The crawlers are smarter than you or I could believe, and they will sniff this strategy out in a hurry.\u00a0 With all of the great ideas I have shared, you shouldn’t need to use any of these strategies anyway.<\/p>\nSo now that you have the basics, go out and start link building.\u00a0 Keep in mind it takes time.\u00a0 There are a number of different strategies so try them all and see what works best for you.\u00a0 You may be surprised at your movement up the rankings once you do.<\/p>\n
