{"id":297,"date":"2010-08-21T22:00:34","date_gmt":"2010-08-22T06:00:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.numinix.com\/blog\/?p=297"},"modified":"2025-03-21T05:21:19","modified_gmt":"2025-03-21T12:21:19","slug":"how-to-create-and-use-a-twitter-account-for-your-business","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.numinix.com\/blog\/how-to-create-and-use-a-twitter-account-for-your-business\/","title":{"rendered":"How to Create and Use a Twitter Account For Your Business"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>This is the third in a series of three blogs on Using Social Media for Your Business.\u00a0 The other two in the series are <strong><a title=\"Why Facebook And Twitter Are Great For Your Business\" href=\"https:\/\/www.numinix.com\/wordpress\/why-facebook-and-twitter-are-great-for-your-business\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Why Facebook and Twitter Are Great For Your Business<\/a>, <\/strong>and <strong><a title=\"How to Use Facebook to Grow Your Business\" href=\"https:\/\/www.numinix.com\/wordpress\/how-to-use-facebook-to-grow-your-business\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">How to Use Facebook to Grow Your Business<\/a>.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Now that I have shown you the value of social media, and\u00a0 how to start a Facebook account, I want to show you how to create and use a Twitter account for your business.\u00a0 In case you arrived here via Delorean from 1955, I will explain to you, Doc, and Marty what Twitter is.\u00a0 Twitter is a social network that allows you to say whatever you want, whenever you want.\u00a0 The only catch is you have to say it in 140 characters or less, so brevity is the key.\u00a0 Twitter has become a phenomenon that no one could have predicted.\u00a0 Businesses are using it in a variety of ways.\u00a0 So can you.\u00a0 In the next few paragraphs, I will show you how to open an account, start tweeting, and manage your account for maximum effect.\u00a0 Then you can jump into the conversation and start reaping the benefits.<\/p>\n<h2>Getting an Account<\/h2>\n<p>This is an easy one.\u00a0 You just go to <a title=\"Twitter\" href=\"http:\/\/www.twitter.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Twitter<\/a>.\u00a0 From there you click on the sign-up button, and follow the instructions.\u00a0 Make sure you use your business name in some form in your user name for the account.\u00a0 For instance, we would use @numinix to let everyone know we are from Numinix.\u00a0 Then you will want to build your business&#8217; profile.\u00a0 Be sure to list any pertinent information about your business you would want the world to know.\u00a0 The next step after that is to look for other tweeters to follow.\u00a0 Use the search function to find friends, colleagues, competitors, or experts in your industry.\u00a0 You will also want to post on your website that you can now be followed on Twitter, so your customers can find you.\u00a0 Now that you have an account it&#8217;s time to start tweeting.<\/p>\n<h2>Successful Tweeting<\/h2>\n<p>The account is up, you have used all 160 characters of your bio, now what do you say?\u00a0 To tell you the truth, it all depends on what you want to use your account for.\u00a0 The unique thing about Twitter is it allows you to build a relationship with your customer base in real time.\u00a0 You could start with something like &#8220;It&#8217;s great to be a part of Twitter, what questions do you have about our company or product&#8221;?\u00a0 Beyond that, here are a few tips to help you tweet:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Ask questions that will provoke\u00a0 a response from your followers.<\/li>\n<li>Answer questions from your customers about problems, concerns, new items, etc.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Don&#8217;t<\/strong> simply tweet about what product or service is on sale.\u00a0 You are trying to build a community with your followers, not spam them to death.<\/li>\n<li>Talk about new trends in your area<\/li>\n<li>Offer special deals or coupons to your followers<\/li>\n<li>Use it to answer customer service questions in real time<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>These are just a few examples of the myriad of ways you can use Twitter.\u00a0 Exactly which of these you use will depend largely on how much time you have, how big your company is, and how much value you perceive is being elicited from your Twitter experience.\u00a0 Once the tweets start rolling in, you&#8217;re gonna need a way to organize it all.<\/p>\n<h2>Managing the Chaos<\/h2>\n<p>As you can imagine, there can be an endless stream of tweets coming in to your account.\u00a0 You don&#8217;t have time to sit online all day and respond to\/read them all, so some great applications have been developed to help you keep it all together. This is not an exhaustive list, just some ideas to get you started.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><a title=\"Tweetdeck\" href=\"http:\/\/tweetdeck.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tweetdeck<\/a>&#8211; Absolutely essential tool for keeping active and updated on Twitter.\u00a0 You can create groups which allow you to only view the tweets that are relevant for you at the time.\u00a0 Tweetdeck has too many features to list here, so check it out.<\/li>\n<li><a title=\"SplitTweet\" href=\"http:\/\/splittweet.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">SplitTweet<\/a>-This enables you to manage several accounts from one place.
