{"id":3171,"date":"2017-04-03T08:00:06","date_gmt":"2017-04-03T15:00:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.numinix.com\/blog\/?p=3171"},"modified":"2017-03-30T22:56:29","modified_gmt":"2017-03-31T05:56:29","slug":"introducing-wal-marts-new-e-commerce-venture-store-no-8","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.numinix.com\/blog\/introducing-wal-marts-new-e-commerce-venture-store-no-8\/","title":{"rendered":"Introducing Wal-Mart\u2019s New E-Commerce Venture: &#8216;Store No 8&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.numinix.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/AdobeStock_81536048.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-3173\" src=\"https:\/\/www.numinix.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/AdobeStock_81536048.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.numinix.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/AdobeStock_81536048.jpeg 4000w, https:\/\/www.numinix.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/AdobeStock_81536048-300x169.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/www.numinix.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/AdobeStock_81536048-768x432.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/www.numinix.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/AdobeStock_81536048-1024x576.jpeg 1024w, https:\/\/www.numinix.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/AdobeStock_81536048-624x351.jpeg 624w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Wal-Mart have announced plans to launch a new venture, \u2018Store No. 8\u2019, which will operate as a Silicon Valley incubator, housing startups wholly owned by Wal-Mart but run independently. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This is part of Wal-Mart\u2019s e-commerce strategy under the new leadership of<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/Jet.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Jet.com<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> owner, Marc Lore, whose e-commerce store Wal-Mart recently purchased.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Other e-commerce stores recently purchased by Wal-Mart include<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/nymag.com\/thecut\/2017\/03\/wal-mart-buys-modcloth.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ModCloth<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, ShoeBuy and Moosejaw, rapidly increasing its online growth.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Wal-Mart tech incubator will invest in and work with startups, venture capitalists and academics to develop its own robotics, artificial intelligence systems and augmented reality.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The goal is to identify emerging technologies that can be used across Wal-Mart stores, as well as allowing startups operating under the tech incubator to grow without being too sheltered by Wal-Mart, which already has the reputation of being the world\u2019s largest retailer. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These new technologies may also allow Wal-Mart to catch up with e-commerce giant, Amazon, with Lore saying Wal-Mart has an advantage over &#8220;pure play&#8221; e-commerce companies due to its network of stores attracting shoppers for such items as fresh food.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>What do you think of the new Wal-Mart tech incubator?
