Slow page loads cost sales. Zen Cart Optimizer replaces your store's traditional disk-based caching with Redis, a high-performance in-memory data store, to speed up page delivery and reduce load on your database.

The plugin overhauls how your store handles caching, from page content and database queries to session data, shifting the workload to Redis instead of the filesystem. The result is a faster, more efficient storefront with less database strain.

Once installed, it works automatically, hooking into Zen Cart's standard observer and auto-loader architecture with no template edits and minimal configuration. It's also a direct upgrade path from Numinix Disk Cache, preserving the familiar cacheStart() / cacheEnd() API while eliminating cron jobs and file-locking overhead.

1. One configuration page, every optimization layer
All settings live under Configuration → ZC Optimizer in your admin panel, where you can enable the master switch, connect to your Redis server, and toggle individual features (fragment cache, query cache, full-page cache, sessions, object cache, admin caching, HTML optimizations) with their own TTL controls.

2. Full-page cache for guest shoppers
For logged-out visitors, ZC Optimizer serves entire pages directly from Redis, skipping PHP execution on repeat visits; checkout, cart, account, and login pages are excluded by default (along with popular checkout plugins), and built-in protections cover CSRF tokens, session IDs, and POST/error responses, with optional hole-punching for dynamic regions and stale-while-revalidate delivery.

3. Redis-backed query and object caching
ZC Optimizer extends Zen Cart's query caching with Redis-backed table tracking, so it knows which tables were queried and invalidates the right caches when data changes, while category trees, product metadata, and config values can be cached as objects to cut repeated database hits.

4. Redis session storage
Sessions move from the filesystem to Redis for faster access and sharing across multiple web servers, useful for load-balanced hosting, with session locking (v1.11.0+) to prevent concurrent requests from overwriting each other.

5. Automatic cache invalidation, zero maintenance
No need to manually clear cache after edits: ZC Optimizer listens to Zen Cart notifier events (cart changes, checkout, admin updates) and flushes relevant Redis keys automatically, with a manual Clear Cache control and Redis stats (memory, key count, uptime) also available.

6. HTML performance optimizations (GTmetrix / Lighthouse)
Independent toggles apply common speed-test fixes directly to rendered HTML, no core file edits required, including lazy-loaded images, deferred external JavaScript, HTML minification, and preconnect hints, all running inside the full-page cache buffer so cached pages are stored already optimized.

7. Database index optimizations (v1.9.0+)
The plugin automatically adds missing indexes to standard Zen Cart tables on upgrade, improving pagination, related-products queries, order-status reporting, sales aggregation, catalog sorting, and admin search, with a standalone SQL script also included for manual application.

8. Graceful degradation and easy migration
If Redis becomes unavailable, the plugin silently disables itself with no shopper-facing errors, and upgrading from Numinix Disk Cache is as simple as installing ZC Optimizer, enabling it, and optionally removing the old disk cache files and cron job.
