e-commerce shopping

E-commerce has revolutionized the way we shop — with almost everything we could possibly need or want available at the click of a button. Needless to say, even the finest, most innovative technologies have their own set of downfalls and dilemmas. So, while you’re probably already well aware of the many advantages of e-commerce shopping, it’s also important to familiarize ourselves with some of the disadvantages of online transactions and how easily these limitations can be overcome.

There’s no face-to-face interaction

The world of e-commerce is a huge stepping stone for many startup businesses, especially if they’re struggling to get the word out about their products or services. But, it’s also fair to say that small businesses thrive on their ability to make personal connections. What better way to do that than by some simple face-to-face business interaction?

While e-commerce shopping doesn’t have the ability to create this type of communication, it does have the capacity to speak volumes to consumers based on its website design. Bolds images, descriptive language and the option to contact your business by phone or email will offer your customers a competent interaction without any overbearing, pushy sales tactics.

E-commerce business owners also have the option of installing a live chat plugin which will allow their customers to contact them with any questions and concerns they may have. This allows them to address any problems in a timely manner and shows their customers that they can provide them with support promptly.

Not all people know how to shop online

There are many customers, both young and old, that don’t know how to shop online. Whether they get confused by the checkout procedure or they simply aren’t comfortable entering their credit details on an e-commerce website, this can be a big disadvantage for startup companies hoping to gain traction online. How do you combat this as a business owner you ask?

Well, for starters your website needs to have a professionally designed layout using an easily navigable, open source platform. Plugins are another website add-on that will enhance your customers online shopping experience. The easier it is to browse your website, the more likely customers are to make a purchase.

You can’t experience the product beforehand

Especially when it comes to clothing and shoes, many customers can be discouraged to shop online without the ability to physically hold, feel and try on the product. How will they know the fit? What if the material isn’t very good quality? There’s no denying that a brick and mortar shopping experience can offer all the physical pleasures of making a purchase, but e-commerce shopping is quicker, more convenient and often cheaper.

The best way to overcome this e-commerce challenge is to write fulfilling, intuitive product and service descriptions for everything on your webpage. This gives your customers a good understanding of what you offer and puts more power in their hands as an online shopper. Also, be sure to set up a review section on your site where your customers can share their opinions about your products and services. This will build a trusting relationship among your past and potential customers, allowing them to put faith in the fact that you stand behind your business and what you sell.
