Google is taking an important step towards a secure web. The search engine started giving a slight search ranking boost to HTTPS URLs over regular HTTP ones. By preferably showing HTTPS pages in the search results, the company expects to decrease the risk of insecure connections and content injection attacks.
Note that pages without an HTTPS counterpart aren’t affected in search results, however Google suggests that business owners help to increase security by redirecting their HTTP site to their HTTPS version and by changing the HTTP Strict Transport Security (HSTS) header on their server.
